Funkin Autumn Beverage Idea

Looking for a creative way to offer ice cold beverages on your buffet or table? Why not use a funkin to do so. Here I have hollowed out the top of a pilgrim funkin, as it does not have a hole at the bottom. These are sealed all the way around, so they will not leak. I then filled it with ice and an assortment of bottled beverages for my guests. Quick & easy and it makes a fantastic presentation!

Glittered Skeleton - Halloween Glam!

Walking through the forest I happened upon an eerie skeleton, encrusted in glitter. Spooky as it was, it's bones shimmered like diamonds as they caught the reflection of the sun.

This craft project is sure to bring that wow factor this Halloween. I used polystyrene skeleton bones set and covered them with various shades of glitter from Art Glitter. I hand applied the glitter by using a glitter glue purchased at Art Glitter. I did two bones of the skeleton in one shade of glitter, then moved on to another shade. The entire skeleton done in a single color or monocramatic tones would be great as well.

If you like this idea, but don't have the time - you can order a completed set of these glittered bones for $80.

Decoupage Love Pendants

Inspired by one of the deepest desires within all of us, my decoupage love pendents collection is sure to bring some attention your way.  Each piece is artfully decoupaged by hand using similar techniques Maria Antoinette and Queen Victoria used centuries ago.  It takes three days to complete the process for each pendent, truly each one is a work of art. I hope you enjoy them.

Vintage Travel Baubles Collection

Inspired by a road trip across America, my vision was about forward movement - momentum, so to speak. How we get from point A to point B in ALL aspects of our life. Coupled with the fact that we all need to be reminded at times to keep on moving forward. Being sedentary is never good. The patterns are based on Vintage Travel Transporations Images, so be it via a bicycle, hot air balloon, airplane or wood-paneled cruiser - keep moving forward with a little inspiration from kon-tent. .

Necklaces are $10 (priced from top to bottom, left to right) and the 5-paneled bracelet is $20.  Mix and match your mediums or have a central theme - it's up to you.  I can provide you with sample images to choose from as well.

My first crochet project in 25 years, I hope I can inspire you!

Here is a little tidbit of my new crochet project.  I have not picked up a crochet hook in 25 years, so I was not sure if I even knew how to do it - I will let the photo speak for itself.  I am going to make an afghan mixing the Soft Blue squares with Chocolate Brown flowers and Chocolate Brown squares with Soft Blue flowers.  I am using Caron Brand Simply Soft Yarn Chocolate (#9750) and Soft Blue (#9712) with a Boye J-sized hook.  This creates a looser stitch which is softer and will lay on the body in a more comfortable fashion.

The Best Flour Sack Towels - Kitchen Gadgets

The Best Flour Sack Towels - May - Lily of the Valley

I spent embroidering over the weekend, one of my favorite past times.  I worked on this flower of the month flour sack towel.  I chose pink lily of the valley because it is not commonly known you can get this color and I love the smell of them.  I took roughly an afternoon from start to finish to do this towel, I thought it would be fun to show the towel in process.  You can order one for $7 -

Beading - Image Transferring

Recently I came across a new technique to me, Image Transferring.  You can use wide variety of materials to transfer to, here I used copper to transfer images of fish onto the metal.  I have also done this to resin, metal, even wood!  Coupled on this piece with fresh water pearls and crystals that I have wire-wrapped to form a bracelet for my daughter.  She loved it and I am so happy with how easy it is.  You will need to get the solution to transfer the image and obviously the foundation you are going to transfer your image onto as well as choose one of the numerous images availabe out there.

As always, I get my beading supplies from The Bead Monkey, OR you can contact Mitch at The Bead Monkey via their website and he can get the necessary supplies for you. Finally, if you are not in the Minneapolis/St.Paul area I am sure you can find them at your local bead store.

The Best Flour Sack Towels - Kitchen Kitsch

If this doesn't take you back to when you were a kid, then I guess I am dating myself. I only use flour sack towels to dry my dishes. It's all I have used since I was a child and I guess I figured when I had to buy towels when I moved out on my own - it was habit to use what my mother and her mother always used. Flour sack towels are very absorbant and leave little to no lint on glassware.

Growing up, all of our flour sack towels were embroderied in the corner with some type of kitchsy motif. I had been mulling these over in my head for years to do them just to add some life to drying the dishes. This set is dedicated to Kitchenware.
I have decided that everyone needs to get in on this trend, so you will find more posts about these embroidered towels on my website - I will even have a specific link to view all of them. If anyone is interested in getting a set, cost is $49 for seven -

Beading for guys

I think there is a popular misconception out there that beading jewelry is for girls, and although I would hold to the belief that it is mainly a female-oriented industry there is a lot that us guys can do too.  I find that most casual necklaces and bracelets out in the market for men (when you can find them even) at retailers are not manufactured very well.  Going to the bead store and picking out beads that are closer to my personality and style, coupled with the fact that I am going to take care to make sure it stays together makes hand-crafting your my own jewelry have added value.  I really don't have many rules when it comes to beads outside nothing with facets and no crystals (ahem, I think this should go without saying...)!

For the top piece I chose jasper tubes and strung it with leather, tying a simple knot in between each piece.  I was inspired for the tiger-eye piece below, because I am a collector of faux bamboo.  I simply took the beads and strung them along common beading wire and finished it off using a hematite-colored clasp.  Each one of these pieces took no more than ten minutes to make and I will get years of use out of them.  I think my total investment in each necklace was around $15-$20, so easy on the pocketbook too.

As always, I get my beads from The Bead Monkey.  They have to brick and mortar locations as well as a wonderful website, their kits make great gifts.
