Lodge Cast Iron Cookbook

I just received my copy of the Lodge Cast Iron cookbook, of which I was a contributor.  The recipe they featured of the several I submitted is my Lemon Lavender Pound Cakes using the Lodge Drop Biscuit Pan.  I am so honored to have been a part of this project.  The photography is amazing as well - thank you Lodge!

My NBC appearance making Pizza Waffles

I was on NBC this last Tuesday doing a cooking segment. I made my pizza waffles, and also showed examples of my cinnamon bun waffles and huevos rancheros waffles. This recipe calls for a yeast batter as opposed to the traditional quick-rise batter. The yeast batter mimics pizza dough and provides a depth of flavor to the waffle. You can use whatever toppings you care to in this - it is delicious with pineapple and Candian Bacon or filled with vegetables!

I made this video to submit for a local contest on Twin Cities Live. I was not chosen as one of the finalists, but I still think it is a great snapshot of my work! Cooking on the Dacor appliances is always enjoyable...

Afton blogger Ross Sveback muses on subjects from rosemaling, to balsamic truffles, to the virtues of Dacor's new 30-inch dishwasher. Sveback, who teaches cooking and entertaining classes, had a primo post earlier this summer with a recipe that substituted julienned zucchini for spaghetti in a veg-friendly main dish. My television debut

Saturday was my television debut. I was asked by Fox 9 to teach their listeners some food tips on their 'In the Kitchen' segment. I opted to make some olive oil recipes where people can use the essential oil outside the box, or in a remixed way. I knew I had five minutes, but since this was my first segment had no concept of how much time I would actually have. I decided to make two recipes, the olive oil cake and a toasted walnut pesto.

Tom Halden was my co-cook, and he was a really great guy- funny too! He ended up interacting with me which is what I had not anticipated - this cut into the time, which was fine. It was great having that interaction. I was happy how it went even though I was unable to finish the pesto recipe.

I am excited to go back again and polish the segments!

Special Thanks to Kim Ode at the Minneapolis Star & Tribune for writing such a nice article about kon-tent as well as the 12-Step Confidence Series. I appreciate it! Here is the article:

Confidence with a K

The most crucial ingredient in any recipe is confidence. Ross Sveback of Afton aims to teach this through his new culinary venture, kon-tent, with his "12-Step Confidence Series." Sveback says his Grandmother Ellen taught him the basics of cooking, home and gardening, and he's now sharing his "simple and attainable ideas for enhancing one's life." His cooking classes are held at All Inc., 185 W. Plato Blvd. in St. Paul, and include basics for chicken, pasta, baked goods, soups, eggs and more. Classes are $40 (discounts are available for multiple class purchases), and limited to 12 students. To check the classes and register, go to http://www.kon-tent.com/.
